Toddington Town Band are just good Neighbours for Channel 5! Welcome to the website of the Toddington Town Band. We are a local band who meet for pleasure and enjoyment of music. We play brass instruments and have a long history of music making in
Bedfordshire. For more see our band history
section. The Band is currently made up of just over 35 Members and is growing
all the time. We meet every Tuesday in the Toddington Sports and Social
Club, on the High Street in Toddington and are always looking for new
members. Our offer of free tuition to anyone who would like to learn a brass instrument is still open with band members willing to pass on their experience on a Tuesday evening between 6.30 and 7.15pm. If you can play or have played in the past and would like spend an evening a week making music in a friendly atmosphere.. Come along and see us on: - Tuesday evening 19.45 - 21.15hrs at the Toddington Social & Services
Club!! We play engagements in and around Bedfordshire for numerous organisations, for more information contact the secretary, Sally-Anne Eburn-Knowles, see our contact us page. Below is a list of band engagements until the end of the year (as it
currently stands!). Please feel free to join us at any of these. If you
need transport don't hesitate to call, there are always plenty of cars
going to all performances.
Latest News - 2nd February 2008 Christmas is over, carol books and seasonal music back in the library, and the band is working hard preparing programmes for the coming summer fete, bandstand and concert season. Christmas was very successful for us with only one engagement washed out. Performances were well played, appreciated by audiences and, as importantly, financially rewarding for the band, helping us acquire new music and instruments for both learner and senior bands. We would like to thank all those who showed their appreciation with donations and positive comments. Another bonus was the attraction of a couple of new players who have already joined us for rehearsals. Welcome to them - we hope they enjoy their time with us. So here we are 2008, provisional diary engagements are already being confirmed and we are trying a couple of different events this year. In addition to Teas on the Green, our Birthday & Christmas concerts, we have a Playing FunDay on Saturday 23rd February and a Musical Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on Saturday 1st March. The Playing FunDay is a real first for us, supporting our philosophy of music for pleasure and music for all. We invite Brass Musicians of all ages and all abilities to join us for day at the Methodist Church & Hall. We'll all tackle music specially chosen for the day and work on it in sections and together. A top brass repairer and playing expert will be delivering insights on how to get great playing results and revealing tips that could save a fortune on repairs! The day will end with a performance (and a free concert) of the pieces. The whole event will cost £1 per player to be donated to the Band's charity of the year "Breast Cancer Awareness". So please come along, bring a packed lunch, an instrument if you have one, and join us for a lot of fun and to benefit a really worthwhile cause. Refreshments will be available. Saturday music school pupils will be very welcome to join us for the afternoon. The younger generation of readers (especially Parkfields pupils) will
know about "Gaz & Babs'" Breakfast Show on Chiltern Radio.
Babs has been taking cornet lessons with one of our experienced players
and intends to be with us for the day and even better (we think!!), marshalling
her Barmy Army to join us at the end of the day. Babs is a great example
of progress that can be made from absolute starter within a small period
of time. Our offer of free tuition to anyone who would like to learn a
brass instrument is still open with band members willing to pass on their
experience on a Tuesday evening between 6.30 and 7.15pm. On Saturday 1st March between 10.00 am and midday, the Toddington Band is hosting a Coffee Morning at the Village Hall where both the leaner and senior bands will be playing some light music to aid the digestion of tea/coffee, cakes and biscuits. See posters around the village from Mid February for further details. The band is keen to play its part in the local community and is available to play at fetes etc. to assist other organisations in their fund raising. For more details please contact our secretary, Sally-Ann Eburn Knowles on 01525 754337. If you can play or have played in the past and would like spend an evening a week making music in a friendly atmosphere - Come along and join us. Last updated 1 May 2008 |
